I have a 1980 Hunter with a 2QM15 YANMAR. I need to replace the prop. The YANMAR manual says I can go 15 x 9 for a 2 blade or 14 x 10 on a three blade. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks! Garry http://www.99main.com/~elmergw/

A Prop Pitch

Hey Gary, I too have a 1980 H33 with a 2QM15. Two years ago after reading a very favorable review in Practical Sailor, I decided to reprop my boat with a Campbell Sailor propeller. My original prop was a Michigan 2RH14x10x1. Although this prop is very efficient at driving the boat forward at crusing speeds in relatively mild seas, my new Campbell Sailor, a 3RH14x8x1, has given my baby a new lease on life under power. The Campbell has much greater thrust for those hard-to-weather days. It has 80% more reverse thrust for backing off docks or backing down at mooring or anchor. The coefficient of drag is only marginally higher than the two blade but the increases I,ve seen in performance have been dramatic. I highly recomend you to consider this prop option for your boat. You can contact me for more information and the Company contact is: West By North Enterprises 130-6753 Greybar Road, Richmond, BC, Canada V6W 1H7 (604) 244-0643 www.westbynorth.com Good Luck, Steve

re-prop

I have a H33 as well. The original owner changed the engine to a Westerbeke 21a (24 hp). He than reproped from the two blade to a michigan wheel 3 bladed, 14 RH 12. It was later re-pitched to a 14 RH 10. This gave the motor an increased RPM. I can't tell you what it was like before but this boat drives hard into wind/seas. I love the prop set-up, even reverse it pulls hard. The loss of speed under sail is mainly noticable at lower speeds, when the wind is up above 15 kts. she still sails at 6+ kts with two dinks in tow (his and hers) and a full crusing load. Good luck.

14x10 three blade

I am also replacing the prop on my 78 H33 with 2QM15. Current prop is a 15x13 two blade which is way over proped, max rpm's is about 2100. I just purchased a Michigan Wheel 14x10 three blade as sized by propeller shop. I hope to install it soon, can't wait to see the results. I considered the Campbell Sailor but the service shop in Fla. that they said could repitch it if needed was not interested in answering any questions about the product and was quite rude as well. I did not want to do business with them or deal with shipping the prop back to Canada for tweeking so I chose the Michigan Wheel, they can be serviced anywhere.

Thanks All!

Thank you all for your replies! I think I will switch to the 3 blader and the 14 X 8 sounds like the one to shoot for. See my latest message about what NOT to do! Thanks! Garry Elmer
