proper grease for rudder shaft. what of the bearings?

added for clarification: fiberglass tube is packed with grease (zerc fitting)

C&C 30: Fiberglass tube, UHMW Bearings??? Stainless shaft.

A friend asked what type of grease I would be using to reassemble. He is building his own rudder. He has tried marine grease, White Lithium, and read that Molybdenum would actually be harmful. Marine turned hard in 1 season, and white lithium appeared to "attack' the plastic spacers (Nylon? UHMW? Teflon?).

What is the best grease for rudder bearings?

I used a general purpose wheel bearing grease on mine for many years without problems. I refreshed it every spring before launch. That was on a 1974 C&C27 which had what I believe was UHMW bearings.

uhmw is a greaseless bearing. when worn, replace.

that said, i don't know his bearings.

correction: Tube is packed with grease. Indeed the bearings are plain bearings with no grease grooves, so little if any lubrication.
