We recently had our 31 ft. Hunter pulled out for an inspection. At that time it was noted that the propeller was bent up so that it almost touches the boat. We are trying to understand how that could happen. Maybe the straps when it was taken out of the water? I need to replace the prop however where would I buy one and which one. It is yanmar engine.

more then the prop

is bent if it is almost hitting the hull.I would guess the shaft is also damaged as well as you will neeed to check the strut. As far as replacing it you should go with the same size as now (it should be marked on the hub of the prop) unless you had some performance problems prior to it be bent. There are several major prop manufactures Michigan being one of the bigger names. It does sound possble that the lifting straps may have damaged it during haul out, since the prop being bent so much surely would have caused vibrations and poor performance. Can you post a picture? I think you need to talk to the yard and see what they have to say about it.Also check fo strap marks on the hull that line up with the prop area. Good Luck !

It seems like a long time ago, perhaps 10 years, that the marina placed the haul-out straps across the prop shaft. Then noticed it as soon as the boat was out of the water, placed it back in, and repositioned the strap. The damage was done, and thank goodness I was there to witness the accident. The marina replaced the shaft and all else that they damaged, no charge to me. Check with the folks that hauled your boat.
