I would like to hear from other Catalina 36 owners abiut thir propellers. I have a 1989 model with the Universal 25XP (23HP) which I cannot run past 2600 RPMs with the current propeller. I suspect I have a 15 inch by 12 pitch, two blade. What do you have. I note that the engine is ok and that in neutral it goes past 3200 RPMs. Giorgio Perissinotto giorgio@humanitas.ucsb.edu

Propeller size

Dear Giorgio: With the information you supplied on your vessel and its running, it sounds as if you need to reduce the current propellers pitch by apx. 2 inches. Most propeller repair shops can do this. You may wish to keep in mind that if any other owner tells you that they are equipped with a ???, it may not be what you boat will be capable of handling. It’s often very difficult to determine whether an engine has the same output as a sister ship or what, if any, the other owner has installed to the engine and what its draw may be. It is always most accurate to work with the actual installation then try to do to much comparison. If you need any more assistance please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody

15x10

our 1986 C-36 with a M25 21 HP had a 15x10 and we put on a 16x10. Wrong, it is causing an over heating situration. Neutral we hit 3000 RPM and in gear we hit 2800 RPM but I have been told that the gap between the tip and hull is very important and we messed up when we went to the larger prop. I went to the larger prop at Martec recomendation. Oh well. I am looking for 3 blade folding 15x10 prop. Bob
