I have a Hunter Vision 32 with a Yanmar 3GM30F engine. I need a new propeller. It now has a 2 blade prop. Does anyone have any suggestions about changing to a 3 blade prop

Campbell Sailer

I put a Campbell Sailer prop on my H380 and have been happy except I am a little over pitched and turning too few RPM's... Overall I get less vibration under power and it SEEMS to give less drag under sail... To save some hassle if your boat is in the water. I would get a 2nd opinion on the prop specs (pitch etc) before ordering. For the second opinion, try www.yanmarhelp.com Provide Dick with numbers and he will give you the pitch etc. For the prop.. follow the link below. Brian s/v CREW REST

v32 prop

We have a Campbell sailor on our V32 and are extremly pleased with the results ,Now we have the right size.We cruise at 6.5 knots at just about2900 revs. But becauce we had two I dont remeber the size but will look it up.If you contact Norm info@northbywest.com.And he has it in records Good luck

I'd go with the 2-blade

I've had my Vision 32 since 1990, and have always been more than satisfied with the 2-blade. The boat does 7 knots at 2800 rpm in calm wind/water conditions, with plenty of reserve power for worsening wind/wave conditions. It has excellent thrust, and even backs relatively well. If your Vision doesn't have this kind of performance, I would suggest having a good prop shop repitch it. IMO, the 3GM30 is plenty powerful for this boat, and the only thing a 3-blade prop will do for you is cause you to sail slower in lighter winds.

Consider a maxprop

I re-propped our Vision 32 with a 16" - 3 blade maxprop 3 years ago. I found the original 2 blade prop did not have good reverse performance which was necessary when berthing in a strong cross wind. The maxprop is now set at 22 degrees and performs great. 6.7 knots at 2800 rpm and 3400 rpm at full throttle in reverse.

Agree w/Doug: Maxi - 3 blade for quiet operation

Love my maxi, should have gotten the 3 blade for a smoother ride. Really improves sailing performance in modest winds.

Campbell Sailor

I just installed a 3 blade Campbell Sailor on my h30 and so far I like it. Still need some more time to break in the engine and do some more testing. On the issue of drag, in the comparision of drag the 3 blade Campbell Sailor was only slightly more than the 2 blade Mich. I was using. Ideally the Max prop would be great, but I'm on a budget and the drag is not really that much of an issue for me. Good luck Royce

Thanks

Thanks for all of your help. My problem has been poor backing control...it takes forever to "bite"
