Hi, I would change on my H49 ( 50) the fixed 3 blade propeller with a type Gori or Max Prop. Any owner of H49 0r 50 has already made a similar choice and how is it?
THANKS

I changed over to a Variprop 4blade. Very pleased with it .
Bit expensive but aren't they all

Thank you. 4 blade fixed? What is the diameter? the same as the model 3-blade?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of this choice.

I changed to Maxprop on my 38. Can't say enough how happy I've been with e performance improvement.
The prop manufacturer can recommend size when you tell them what boat / engine combination you have.

I went with 3 blade Maxprop. Thought about the fancy 4 blade but it was almost $2,000 more than the $3,200 I was already paying. And that was just too much.

Well, I must study too much to take a decison before spending money.
Three blade o four blade that's the problem.

Well the four blade gives me about 1 knot of additional speed at around 2200 RPM and above and it seems to be better balanced than my fixed three blade. The reverse thrust and stopping power is excellent. Keep in mind when you do your research the prop maintenance schedule. Some require the prop to be removed and shipped back to the factory.

For the Variprop contact Rick Steadman with any questions rsteadman@epifanes.com

For the 49 with the 4JH4-HTE it's the VariProp DF-112 4-blade 22”x18”x14” for the 1-1/2” SAE shaft.

He has done a few 49's and it came from the factory with the pitch pretty close to spot on.

If you have have any other questions please PM or post them.

I replaced my 18x17 3 blade fixed with a Flex o fold three blade 20x14, H466. Gained .2kt under power and .7kt under sail. Stopping or maneuvering no problem. Mechanically simpler and less expensive than a Max prop. No shaft mod necessary to install either.

Only one choice

thanks.
I have the 49 as well
For sure, no question about it, go with the 4 blade Vari prop.
Reasons are:

Great motoring efficiency
ZERO prop walk in reverse
No shaft spinning when sailing
Gain approx 3/4 knot under sail.

This prop is without question the best choice for a 49. It's a heavy boat, and thus will just punch through head seas. The 4 blade makes a big difference over 3 blade.
I believe it is made in Itajy, so pricing should be attractive.
Good luck

I asked about and Variprop offers for my boat (Hunter 50 year 2007 yanmar 4JH4HTE 110 cv)) a 24"x16"x14".
What do you think. Your engine is a 110cv?
Thanks

Yes I have the same engine as you In fact i also have a 2007 model Hunter. I believe you have the clearance for a 24" (61cm) prop but I'm not comfortable saying more than that. I'll comment on my prop all day long because I know that prop and its performance on my boat. My prop at 22" (55.9cm) has not only met my expectations but exceeded them. Absolutely worth the money spent.

The variprop was an excellent investment.
It has performed flawlessly.
I had a maxprop on my 40.5, but wanted 4 blade on the 49, hence the Variorop.
I have heard all excellent reviews on variprop.
The main thing is that you need a feathering prop on a boat of this size.
Not an option.
The 49 is a fabulous boat.
Please check all of my posts.
You want to do the "engine access upgrade"
Once you see this document, it will be very evident

Well . I contacted again Variprop and those I pointed that some boats are equipped with the 22". After some checks have confirmed to me that the best solution is the 22" also for the feedbacks of other owners of 49.
