Does anyone know the length of the propeller shaft for the Hunter 386/380/376? I am unable to measure precisely enough (to get a new one made) as the boat is in the water, and I cannot find the specification anywhere online.

Thanks!

Thanks James. I'm in Canada and while the pricing for the actual shaft and coupling is very good, the US$450 in shipping plus the duties and then our HST taxes, make it uncompetitive. I do like the business for smaller, easy to ship stuff. I will be asking them the length too, but the sales office is no where near the actual warehouse, so in fact, they never actually see the parts.

So, hopefully someone here has replaced their shaft and knows, or has their boat on the hard and can measure.

OUCH !

I would hazard a guess and say that every prop shaft for the Hunter 386/380/376 is different in length. It's a custom fit as each boat is made. The max. allowable overhang past the strut is 1.5 times the diameter of the shaft. Anything less and it's "lets try this all over again".

Thanks Ralph.

In fact, as Hunter.boatowners website indicates, and a chat with the person on the phone there, nope ... The hull for all 3 designs is identical. The online store sells them pre-made and ready to ship with the coupling fit and faced as standard. That is, the shaft and coupling are sold as an inventory, standard length.

My goal this weekend is to find someone who knows that standard length.

Cheers,

Hamish

I hope they're right. I suppose in the construction process, the engine is positioned as a function of the shaft length. Just my over- caution with an item as expensive as that.

I suppose the engine was fixed to the boat during construction. Then, a shaft length was determined and selected.
