I have a 89 Oday 322. The propane tank fits in an aft locker and apparently the tank and locker were built/sized for each other. The tank is 11" high and 9" diameter with the bottom concave that fits on a convex portion of the locker. The tank does not have the now required overflow valve. Does anyone have any experience with finding a replacment tank of the same dimensions or replacement of the valve to be overflow compliant? thanks steve hoey

Propane Retailer

I have an O34 with odd size propane tanks that have not been updated, however, I had them filled before the deadline. I checked with the local propane distrubutor in my area where I had them filled and they indicated that when I brought the tanks in for re-filling that they could order in the new valves and would replace them. Seems like they quoted about $25.00 a piece. Even though the tanks are odd, I believe that there are only a couple of size valves and they are standard's. Good Luck!

Hard to find

We have two of those one gallon tanks. Retrofit valves were impossible to find. I had to buy a whole new tank with the new valve and now have a new tank and an old tank. I am hoping this season that I can get the other old one retrofitted.

Same problem

I had the same problem with my tank on my 322 last year. Take the tank to a propane distributor and they can swap out the valve.. I paid $25 for it.... Jeff

Propane tank issues

The old propane tanks are a problem. Finding the right valve is only one problem, the other is that tanks have expiration dates stamped on them and some dealers won't replace the valves on takes that are out of date. I couldn't find a tank with similar dimensions to fit in the aft locker of my '88 322. I bought a slightly larger tank (6lb vs. 4) and plan enlarge the locker this spring by cutting the plastic liner and adding 2" to its depth using plywood and fiberglass. I've measured the space beneath the locker in the quarterberth and there is room for this addition. Having a larger more generic brand tank will be useful. Has anyone else tried this alteration?

Propane Tank Issues Revisited

Unless the tank is damaged or severely rusted, the larger propane distribution centers, not the service station type, will pressure test and recertify the old tanks and stamp new dates on them. The expired certification date is normally not a problem.
