Does anyone have any good suggestions for storage of a propane tank in any of the cockpit lockers? Currently we have a 1980 30ft and a 15 lb propane tank (tall and thin). Trying to figure out how to store it in the port locker. I have bought thru fittings for the vent to outside above waterline, fittings for hose and wires for the solonoid & switch setup if we get or make a vapor proof box or locker for the tank, but it would have to lay horizontal in order to fit. We don't want to pay $500-700 or more for a whole new tank and locker setup with a smaller tank that we would have to refill more often. Any suggestions?

Horizontal vs. Vertical

You may not have a choice. My understanding is that tanks are made for either horizontal or vertical mounting, but not both. It has to do with the geometry of the pick-up inside the tank. You'd better check with the manufacturer. Also, your locker will need a high and a low vent so the bottom of the locker has to be high enough for the low vent to exit above the water line without a rise.

I have the same problem on my 1975 C30. I'm working on a railing storage idea that uses a section of PVC pipe, two caps and the stanction. Not much for looks but seems to work OK. I've found the blue green large water pipe inside diameter is slightly larger than the tank. Cap the bottom and drill several holes for venting. Sand or grind the other end for the top so it is easier to remove. Use stainless U bolts to mount to a stern railings. Run the hose thu the stern locker with the solenoid and pressure regulator JUST inside. Or, use a larger PVC pipe and mount the solenoid and pressure regulator inside the pipe. Can be painted to match hull or trim. The pipe keeps the tank from rusting.
