I am hoping that someone knows what size the propane tank is or more importantly what dimensions the dedicated locker can fit. I won't be near my boat for a couple of days and just wanted to verify the size of the tank I could fit in the spare locker.

Thanks,

Jesse

Here's the tank info and the manufacturers plate on the tank holder. I don't have a tape measure with me to get the exact dimensions but the diameter of the holder is 10".

Jesse, I found that with the propane tanks, you should shim the tank up off the bottom of the locker. The little bit of water that collects there will corrode the aluminum of the tanks.

Yeah I found that too. What did you use to shim it? I used some scrap starboard but think it needs to be thicker that what I used.

Last year at a boat show I got the setup to connect my propane grill to a large, refillable tank. I am going to the. Defender sale and hope to get a second tank cheap to put in the second locker that I would use for the grill and backup for the stove. I would be very happy to not have the little green cans rusting on my boat anymore.

I used two of those snap together decking squares I had left over. (the 12" x 12" non-skid type) Was able to trim them round with a tin-snip, and they allow water to drain very nice. They add about 1/4" to the height of the tank.

I used a round piece of plywood, not sure of the width, with cutouts for drainage. Looked like a gator took a couple of bites out of a circle. Sealed the wood with West System epoxy.
I bought my spare tank at an RV supplier. NOT cheap! Worth it, though, to have that extra propane on those long cruises. We carried the small propane containers in a plastic container in the cockpit, mostly for the MR. Heater during the cold months. Always in the way, you know? I like your idea to hook the grill up to the spare tank.
