I am getting ready to get rid of my CNG and replace it with propane. I have a couple questions of anyone who has replaced theirs. 1. Do I need to replace the hose that I used for the CNG? 2. Also what did other 42 owners do as far as storing the bottles? I know Hunter sells a insert but that would take up room I want to use and it only holds 1 small tank.

propane

I own a passage 42 and have wrestled with this problem of were to put the bottles also. I would want to put 2- 20#drs on board and while you can get a 2 tank locker the problem is were to put it. We are going offshore to the islands in about a year and right or wrong I have decided to utilize the existing CNG system I have 4 bottles and a MAGMA outside kettle grill that works off propane. I am going to mount the propane bottles to the rail on the port side aft and use the magma grill as the primary system. We have bareboated in the islands many times and used the grill 90% of the time. Since the bottles are on deck I do not believe leakage will find its way into the boat. Yes I will be taking deck space but at least I will not have spent $1500 bucks or more and will still have a second system to use for special dinners or bad weather. As far as the hose goes I do believe you need to replace

I'll take your CNG parts...

I have a '93 37.5 that was previously converted to LPG but for my use, I would really like to go back to the CNG. If you're interested in unloading your CNG parts, let me know. Probably the same models given our respective boats. dcdon@hotmail.com

i did the rail

I did mine over the winter and hung a 6 lbs aluminum tank off the rail. I used a piece of king starboard as the base and attached it w/rail clamps used for hooking fender holders to the rail, and then used 2 stainless 8" ring clamps threaded through a fitting i crafted of teak that goes around a horizontal section of the rail. Give me an email (i'm in the directory) if you'd like more details. Works great.

WHY ARE YOU CONVERTING?

Hi Bill, at one point I think you were planning on some off shore cruising. Is that the reason for the conversion? I know that CNG is virtually impossible to find outside the US. Would you please post the details of your conversion? Thanks. Terry

Hard to get CNG

We still plan on going offshore in 2 years. Also the cost of CNG keeps going up and I need to go to Seattle to get it. Anyone want to buy a CNG stove and 3 bottles? Also the new stove has somethings the CNG dosen't have which will make the wife happy.
