I need to re-orient some old propane tank fittings (guage, solenoid, etc) on a new propane tank added to my boats aft rail. Some of the fittings seem to have teflon tape on the threads and some don't. Using teflon tape might help to get a tight fit in the new orientation. Is it OK to use teflon tape or anything else on brass propane connections? Thanks for any help.

All of the connections should be flare fittings

and as such should not have any pipe dope used.

SPECIAL PROPANE TAPE

THE "TEFLON" TAPE YOU WANT IS NOT THE SAME AS YOU USUALLY GET FROM HOME DEPOT FOR PLUMBING FITTINGS UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK. THERE IS SPECIAL TAPE AVAILABLE SPECIFICALLY FOR PROPANE FITTINGS. RV AND PLUMBING SPECIALTY STORES IS WHERE I HAVE FOUND IT. GOOD LUCK.

.......... the teflon tape you are looking for is a light yellow in colour and is designed for use with petroleum gases such as propane. This is used on pipe threads only. Flared fittings do not have anything on the mating surfaces. Best regards, s/v Island Hunter
