I was taking our SS french press from home camping except the last time . Someone forgot it. Not the coffee drinker.
I ended up making what I thought would turn out to be coffee soup in the old style camp type pot without a perk thingey.
I found that if you boil the coffee and water for a bit and pour a cup right away its the eat with a fork type of brew.
BUT it you let it sit for a bit then you can pour a perfect cup without any chunky bits! I poured 3 cups at one breakfast and nothing swimming. (Maxwell House reg grind)
Don't know what wave action will do to the coffee particulate suspension yet. I am going to find out this summer. Ill report back with my findings.

Ditto Steve! Melita into a thermos carafe. Just be patient when the boat is rolling so as to avoid parbroiled hand. Don't even ask how I know.
Rick, rick, RICK:

Why is it that every time something like this you say "don't ask". Inquisitive minds need to know WHY!!!

We would do something like that in the army, but right before you serve you pour a little cold water on the top and it knocks the grounds to the bottom. Then you gently laddle the coffee off the top. Not the best coffee but its hot.

I got an Aeropress after the newspaper in my town in Sacramento ran a story on it. I'd never seen one in action and this is really bad but, I worked for a coffee roaster and we sold them. The day the story ran we sold 68 of them. After seeing a demo of one and tasting the coffee, I had to have one. Love it!

All the best, Monte

My wife found an honest 7 cup french press that goes where ever we do. It's made by Bodum. That's a real 7 mugs at a shot.

Ah the coffee thread :)

Reader's Digest version: we mainly use a Bodum french press at home. I never thought to look for a S/S french press... that Nissan is definitely worth a look.

For boat coffee I first bought an Aeropress for use on the boat, but it is a bit fiddly first thing in the morning, and when I accidently forgot one little part on a 3-day trip... it was banished to shore. I still love it and use it occasionally at home, but for the boat, we now have the basic Mellitta-style drip setup. Filters, cone-thing, coffee. Just 3 things to remember.

Two requirements I have are that I need to be able to make the coffee offshore in rough weather, and I would prefer not to have to purchase filters, especially specific ones. The Melita thingy would be a bit tricky and I think you need the special filters, right? Might not find those some places I go cruising.

kw, that's probably true, although I'm told that last Tuesday's Marsh Harbor Times works just as well, especially the editorial and opinion pages...:)

I dunno, lately the editorial pages have left a bad taste in my mouth, and the Saturday comics just taste... funny.

(Thanks so much for the low-hanging fruit :D )

Ditto the Melita cone I add dark moka java ! Starts the day right. I don't make coffee when I'm sailing, and its rough....I make it before and pour in a 6 cup thermos bottle, but then I don't sail much at night either.

The Colman 12 cup stove top unit uses regular filters (they are reusable BTW) and will make coffe anytime the stove can be used. does need a thermos though as once made it has not "keep warm" feature.

I have not heard from anyone using a Keurig K-Cup. I use it with espresso blend. Fast and no mess. My fallback is a French press.</SPAN>

Ran into a stovetop Coleman drip coffee maker at Wally World Super Center today. $39.99 and it looks like it would work with a variety of stoves.
You Melita filter guys, please just ignore the post!:D

edit:
Oh, I bought the Nissan insulated French press. Thanks for the link Kettlewell!
