propane and winter?

Hi All,

Just wondering what the general consensus is regarding leaving propane on the boat over the winter?
Does it freeze?
Better to just remove it to be safe?

What does everyone do?

It will not freeze but if you feel safer with it off the boat then do it.

Not necessary to take the tank off the boat.. but do close the manual valve on the tank(s). The vapor pressure goes down with temperature (only 45 psi at 0F, versus 150 psi at 90F) so the tank is safer in the cold than in the summer.
Yes, propane does freeze, but not at temperatures you'd likely encounter... -306F..
Edit to correct my conversion math in propane pressure at 90F

Close the tank valve and disconnect the system hose. It won't freeze. Or bring it home and use it in your BBQ...

Also cap off, or tape shut, the hose at the regulator/supply end. Spiders love the mercaptan odorant in propane and will move right into the supply hose, making your spring 2017 on board barbeque a real challenge.
