I am about to take delivery of a H38. Can any one recommend prop size for the optional three blade prop. I assume what they supply with the boat will work fine but you know what they say about assuming. Thanks

If they are going to charge you for a 3 blade prop, then I suggest that you look at getting a Campbell Sailor 3 Blade. They are about $525 but you will have the correct prop for your boat and it will sail & motor better.

Prop

FWIW, if I were taking delivery of a new boat I would defer the prop selection to the manufacturer, unless of course I wanted an exotic one that feathers or folds. Has Hunter had any issues related to any of the H38s built and delivered with a fixed three blade? They should know and, from my experience, will tell you. A sea trial, before taking delivery, should tell you whether the boat has the right prop.

I'm only into cruising so the slight increase in speed that comes with an exotic prop is of no interest to me. Our P42 came with a fixed 18 RH 15 bronze three blade and I really like how it helps me to maneuver our 30,000 pound boat.

OEM selection is the only way to go, with too many calculations to understand fully on stress torque etc. in choosing alternatives.

I disagree with going with the OEM prop. These props are notorious for not being the proper fit for the boat.

Any prop shop worth their "salt" should be able to size a prop for your vessel. They have computer programs that figure out what is required for diameter and pitch. They also know what is required to prevent to much prop walk.

We have had issues for several years on just this issue on this website. There are too many variables to understand to try to do this yourself. Get the prop sized before the boat hits the water. It will save you a few hundred dollars.

Curley, if Hunter could offset the price of the 3blade prop, then you're better off with Campbell Sailor fixed 3blade.

I agree with getting it professionally sized and pitched to the OEM specifications with perhaps a higher quality prop bought elsewhere if Hunter product is considered inferior. OEM should be proper fit... Difficult to understand why they would not wish to fit it properly.. but if experience indicates otherwise, I stand corrected.
