I have a 1982 Hunter 27 that I have recently stored on the hard to prepare for bottom strip and painting. I have browsed the net allot to find the stock prop size for my 1gm. Right now I believe I have a 12x17 prop. looks like but still unsure that My stock size is suppose to be 13x9.

Does anyone have any information as to the original prop size for this boat.?
According to a calculator the prop size should be as follows.

Number of blades Diameter (inches) Pitch (inches)
2 Blade 13.5 X 8.0

According http://www.sailcdi.com/propByBoat.htmthe original prop size was
2 Blade 13 X 9.0

If anyone has the original spec for this I would appreciate comment.

Reason I am looking into this is that my in neutral RPM are 3400 my under load RPM are just over 2200 full throttle. This is on the inlet cove on glassy smooth water. I am trying to eliminate all the possible issues to this condition.

The original 2 bladed prop on our '77 h27 was a 12 inch diameter, right hand, 10 inch pitch prop. 13 inches is large enough to thump as the hull interferes with it.

Thank you for your reply.

There must be a difference in allowable space for prop in the 77 vs the 82 possibly. Mine is 13 in, there is 3.75 inch from top throw of prop to the bottom of the hull on the 1982.

I am hopping others with this year of hunter will have some knowledge what the stock prop size is or confirm that the 13x9 is the proper size.

Ty for your comments

I am not a prop expert but I do know what you are supposed to have about 15% of the prop diameter as clearance from the hull.

If you are ordering a prop you probably should let the company that is selling you a prop to size it for you. That way they are responsible for the sizing and performance.

I would also NOT let the stock prop determine the size/pitch of a new one. Hunter did not do the best job of sizing them.

Have you considered a three bladed prop to give you a little more punch?
