I have been considering this business of shaft run-out. If you are out of straight by .005 inches then the effect it will have will be the same as putting a strip of steel .005 inches thick on one side of the shaft. My steel measuring tape is .0065 inches thick. I don't think that sticking that on one side of a 1500 rpm shaft would be noticeable. The entire system needs to be in good shape. These were the engine beds in my boat when I started to rebuild her.
