Shaft, Box and All Else
Thanks for the atta boy Phil. I took the shaft to the machine shop yesterday where the machinist pressed off the coupler and the damaged woodruff key. Static test on the shaft reveals no damage was done , but the machinist was going to spin it on the lathe this a.m. and use a run out gauge to be sure. Coupler will have a cleanup and new keyway cut as well as a third set screw hole bored and tapped. Prop balance was good as well.Stuffing box to be removed this weekend, hose will be replaced along with the four ss/clamps and then reinstalled. I don't want any problem after the fact installation wise. Machinist and dad are in agreement with alignment and both express the same sentiment as you in relation to free movement of the prop on tightening.Hopefully, all will go well on May 30th (Splash Day for this season)We are presently in flood stage on the home river and water levels are possibliy going to remain high for some time, leaving the wharf unuseable. time will tell. Cabin mods going on here as well with new counter tops and chart table, taps and removal of the alcohol stove with LPG replacement.
