My C27 is on the hard for a long overdue bottom paint job. I talked with the yard guy about changing the prop shaft log, since it is the original 16 old part. He is trying to talk me out of it. He says being old doesn't mean it will fail anytime soon. If it isn't cracked, it could last indefinately. Since it is wire re-inforced, it would only cause a small leak if it did split. He definitly is in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" club. He says I could be looking for trouble because the shaft will be frozen to the coupling. He has seen people damage the fiberglass shaft log trying to get the hose off. My question is, has anyone had the hose fail? Any advise?
