prop shaft alignment

When I bought my boat it had a new (3hrs.) Yanmar. The entire drive line
was replaced from engine to prop.The manual recommends that I "adjust the
prop shaft alignment" at 50 hrs and then again every 600 hrs or one year. I
have had the boat for three years and other than filters and oil have not
done anything else. I figured *IF* the prop shaft was mis aligned I would
soon know it by vibration. There are no vibrations. In fact the drive line
runs really smoothly at all engine speeds. I figure if it ain't broke why
fix it? Or am I wrong? Is this a "must do"?

Hi Garry

As you say "If it aint broke, don’t fix it" Sounds like it is OK to me.
I installed a Beta over six years ago and not checked treh alignment
since as there has hardly been any wear in the stern bearing. Sounds
good to me.....

Cheers

Hi Garry;
I agree with Steve- just take a good look at the stern
bearing, if there isn't any noticeable wear - more in one
direction than the other- then you should be okay.
