prop nut size for C30 1" shaft

Can anty body tell me how to hold my prop shaft wile removeing the prop nut.And what sise socket will fit on the nut , will it need to be a deep socket. Can I leave the prop on the shaft and slide the hole thing past the rudder? I have athree blade prop .I need to replace my cutless bearing and It looks like It will be a real progect. John,I just carried out this project in October and learnt a great deal through the archives. Here's what I found out, to remove the shaft on our C30, we did not need to remove the propeller (two blades)from the shaft, it came out with the rudder in place. Can't help you with the size of nut. I did remove the propeller afterward since I needed a new shaft and I used an adjustable wrench and held the shaft with the prop and used a puller to get the propeller off the shaft.Replacing the cutlass bearing went really well considering it was our first try. I had a puller/pusher tool made (see C30 association website for sketches), it took some major elbow grease but within 45 minute it was out with the old one and in with the new one!
