I would take....

.. a dive and check for a loose prop or a bad cutlass bearing. Also check the zinc to make sure it's tight on the shaft. There aren't too many possibilities.

prop spin

you don't want your prop to spin under sail, it puts wear on the trans. put the gear, or the single-lever control, in reverse to stop the spinning and the clicking will stop, too, which is probably really in the trans.

Are you certain the noise isn't present when under power and hidden by the engine noise?

I think this is normal

Your prop should spin (and make some noise) when in neutral with the engine off. Shifting into gear will lock the shaft and make the blades feather. Most will say you need to use reverse but forward works too. I never even take mine out of forward and just stop the engine.

Ummm... Try reading your engine/trans manual. really. it will tell you what your particular engine/trans likes. Mine doesn't mind being in neutral with a spin (although we have a folder), prefers reverse, putting it in fwd will glaze the trans plates and cause slippage while running with the motor. Listed very specifically in the manual. So instead of asking here, read the book. No book: call manufacturer or maint. shop at dealer. B
