I need some ideas / technical help please...

I have had a new twin blade folding prop from Volvo for my MD2010B Volvo engine.

My old prop was similar but not 100% identical. It was a previous model made by Volvo (twin blade folding too.) The new prop may be slightly heavier, but Volvo have ensured me it is the correct size for my engine and the performance will be the same.

All I have changed is the prop and the cutlass bearing. The engine / gear box was in perfect order when the prop was changed and I assume it still is.

The problem I have now....

The boat speed has dropped from 5 knots max to 2.5 knots max at much higher revs. There is increased vibration. There was no alignment issue before the prop was changed....could there be an alignment problem now? Any tips, ides or suggestions welcome as I am confused!

What is the actual pitch and diameter of the prop?
Any photo of the prop in aperture?

I have been diving under the boat and both blades appear to open ok.

The new prop is 14 x 8, the old prop was 15 x 9.

Apparently the performance should be the same...

An engineering company have measured the prop and suggest the boat is suffering from a gearbox, clutch or coupling slip.

Everything worked just fine until the prop was changed?!?!

Any suggestions welcome.....

You could always remove the folder and install the old prop. If the boat
runs like it used to it is the prop - if not look at transmission, etc.

Ric,
Do you have a phone #? I may be in Santa Cruz next weekend. I have been out with a friend cruising the Channel Islands off Santa Barbara last week. Today I am traveling to Redwood City to pick up a Spencer 44 for delivery to Long Beach, Calif. if I drive back to Boulder I'll stop by SC to visit some friends. Would like to stop by and say hello and see your boat.
