I'm posting this in the PNW forum because I suspect the product I'm looking for may only be common in the PNW area.

I'm looking for a propeller guard called Prop Halo? Does anyone know where I can get one?

I've seen them on many small outboard motors in my area (the strait side of Vancouver Island). Many fishing boats around here have them. Web searches turn up either other propeller guards or Halloween costumes (as in a stage-prop halo).

I have seen them on outboards. Are you suggesting putting them on an inboard prop?

You may likely need to have one manufactured.

I might expand my search to include "prop guards".

No, I have an outboard on my boat.

One of the problems with my boat is that if the kick-up rudder kicks up while you're turning and motoring it can go right into the prop. I had to replace my prop because of that. (It doesn't do the rudder any favours, either.) I'm looking for a way to protect the new prop.

@Johnb ,

As I said in my original post, I'm actually looking for this specific prop guard. And I have been on the internet before.

Not sure where you are Ted but can you find one on a boat near you and ask the owner?

If Google doesn't come up with the answer then maybe try asking those boat owners that have them where they sourced their Prop Halo. Tedd does it look something like the one in this photo?

I did ask one owner while he was launching his boat but he got the guard with the boat and didn't know where it came from. Generally, of course, the owner isn't around. Perhaps I'll try leaving notes on boats but I haven't had much luck with that approach in the past.

@Hello Below ,

That's a similar name brand but it's not like the one I'm looking for. The Halo Prop model is a very simple hoop of tubing in the plane of the prop. I like the simplicity of it. Unlike fishermen, I'm not looking to protect my prop from debris, weeds, or fishing lines, so I don't need all the mesh and other features that many guards have.

Tedd, when you next get to the big city, drop by or phone Victoria Propellers. They have 2 locations: one in Cobble Hill (Steve McPherson) and one in Nanaimo (Steve's son). They live and breath props and maybe a start point.
