What is the difference in performance and more importantly steering ability between the standard 2 blade propellor that comes with the 326 and the optional 3 blade?

3 blade prop

A 3 blade prop will help in the sense that it will give you more "punch" when in a headwind or heavy seas.It will help in reducing engine speed and vibration when when running at higher speeds. It will help with "steering" in that it will get the water moving faster over the rudder and increase response(especialy true in reverse)The downside is that it will create more(IMO minimal) drag when sailing, this may or may not be important to you depending on what type of sailing you do(race vs. cruise)There is a lot of info in the archives about this and about 3 blade folding vs. 3 blade fixed. Most would agree the 3 blade is better when using the engine but differ about fixed or folding or feathering prop and drag when sailing. The folding or feathering prop has less dray then the fixed but also cost about $2000 more. You choice ! My two cents (for what it is worth)is a cruiser would do fine with a fixed prop, but again this is more determined but you and your sailing. It is important to get the correct size (diameter and pitch)so that ithe engine is not overloaded. What size is Hnter recommending for a 3 blade prop?

Three blade

Hello Arie, Thanks for the note. The three blade will help the vessel to motor into a heavy wind or sea. “steering” I assume you are referring to reverse? The three blade will also help going astern. It could have an added increase of efficiency by as much as 30%. Fixed blades can also increase in walking, port or to starboard, when one upgrades to a three blade. If I have missed something please let me know. kwoody@pyiinc.com Kevin
