Prop Boss Grease Fitting

Does anyone know what size and thread the grease fitting on the prop boss might be? I've
been trying to find one with no luck. Is there someplace I can order it (like lubromation.com)
once I know the size?

Also, is there a problem with leaving the grease fitting in place while sailing? Will it corrode?
Or throw off the prop rotation causing excessive vibration?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack. I had the same problem and then somebody told me on the website that the grease nipple on the side of the combi unit just back of the engine on the port side would fit the propellor boss. So now I just take that one, fill the prop hub and then put it back. Hope that helps

Thats a huge help! Someone also suggested unscrewing the female fitting from the
grease gun, allowing the grease gun to screw directly into the prop boss. I'll be trying one
or both ideas this week.

Thanks a bunch for the great advice!

Jack, I think you will find that the grease fitting will throw the prop
out of balance and vibrate the shaft etc. rather badly if you leave it
in while motoring. Trev (V2915)

I squirted some grease in the prop boss and it started to come out from the forward end
of the boss (between the boss and the shaft), and from the parting line (which divides the
boss laterally, like bisecting the fins). Is that normal? I assume that means there is
enough grease in it. Does it also mean that there is something wrong?

Thanks,
Jack

Hi Jack

Completely normal. Operate the lever a few times then put some more in. Stop when the grease comes out again as you described. Dont worry, all normal.

Cheers

Steve,
Thanks for the information. I just rebuilt the combi a few months ago and really didn't
want to take it all apart again. On to the next project.

Take care,
Jack
