I'm repower my 76h30. I have a Vetus m310, 22hp that I am putting in. I'm also replacing the prop shaft and am planning to us 1" 316SS shafting material. Is the 316ss ok for that application? Also, on the prop, I am limited to 13" prop. I have to reprop as my old one is LH and my new one needs to be RH. My old prop was 13x11 2 blade. I don't think I want a 3 blade prop. My old engine was a Yanmar YSE12, and I was over proped for it as I could only get 2500 rpm and max rpm is 3000. I have had one analysis for a new prop and for a 2blade they recommended a 13x12. I would appreciate any comments you have on a new prop. Thanks, Royce Hallock

What about your old engine?

Royce, What are you doing with your old engine? Is it old and tired, or are you just going to a more powerful engine? Did you trade in your old engine or are you going to sell it? If it is for sale, please email me at saillrn@comcast.net.

With additional HP, you should be able to..

handle 13x12 two blade with ease. I have one on my 14hp Universal and can get 3,000 rpm with ease on a 8,000+ lb boat.

Campbell Sailer

I just found out about the 3 blade Campbell Sailer prop and am considering it. I produces alot less drag than other 3 blades. Anyone have any experience with one?

Im more than pleased with mine. On our Vison 32,we have noticed much better control in reverse, Also much better performance in heavier seas,we can maitain 6Knots in winds at 2700 revs. They are made here in the Pacific North West In B.C. Canada.

material

Hello Royce, According to our records the vessel is capable of handling a 13” diameter propeller. In order to determine the pitch can you zap to me your reduction gear ratio: This will give me an idea as to the speed the propeller is going to rotate. A 1” 316 SS shaft is great. You may wish to also look into a material called Aqualoy or Aquamet 19 or 22. Both have greater corrosion resistance and tensile strength. My e-mail address is kwoody@pyiinc.com if you want to let me know the reduction gear. With the over abundance of HP you should be fine with a two blade propeller. Hope this helps. Kevin

Flexible Coupling

Royce - if you're getting a new prop shaft and prop, something to consider adding is a flexible coupling. It reduces vibration (and therefore noise). The prop shaft needs to be about 1.7 inches shorter so this would be a good time to do it. Link: http://www.pyiinc.com/index.php?section=rd_marine&action=shaft-coupling&sn=2 Just a thought.
