Taking delivery of a new 410. I previously had a 33.5 with the stock prop and always thought it could have used a larger one. Now is a good time to put on a larger or three blade prop on the new 410 before it is launched. Any advice out there?

Larger prop

Dear Steve Feinsilver: Thank you for your letter. Your 410 should be coming equipped with a 18” three blade bored to 1 ¼” shaft. We sell a great deal of propellers to Hunter boats and I’m not aware of any comments from owners that would cause me to think that there is any need increase the diameter. In fact I’m not real sure that you could increase the diameter without causing the tips of the blades to get to close to the hull. The proximity of the blade tips to the hull should not fall below 15% of the propellers diameter. Any closer then that and the water spilling off the blades could make contact with the hull causing noise. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Kevin L. Woody

410 prop

I installed a 19" Autoprop on my 410 last year. Extremely happy with the performance. 1-1.5 knots more speed at the same engine rpm's. It stops, accellerates and reverses. Highly recommend it. Good luck with the new 410. With any luck I'll be back in the water in 10 days or so. Bryce S/V Spellbinder

3-blade feathering

Steve: I believe the H410 only has a fixed 2-blade out of the factory. At a minimum I would strongly encourage you to upgrade to a 3-blade prop to get the most performance from your engine. If your budget permits, absolutely get a 3-blade feathering prop - I installed a MaxProp on my H410. The MaxProp allows you to stop and turn on a dime, control reverse smoothly and you'll make good headway in adverse sea conditions. /c s/v Twilight
