I bought a new 356 in Sept.It is a 2003 model. It came with a ProMariner Galvanic Isolator and it is driving me crazy. For no reason the alarm will go off even though I have checked and found nothing wrong. It has something to do with the A/C unit and when it operates. How many of you 356 owners have this device and what kind of problems have you had? Also what was your resolution? Thanks

mfg warrenty

Paul, With a boat this new it should be a mfg/dealer repair item. Let them fix it. You might want to call Hunter tech support to see what they think. Not to be short with a answer (don't know what is wrong)but this is a warrenty item and should be handled as such. You migth want to be there when the dealer service man is there to find out what is wrong. Most of the time it is a great learning experiance. Good Luck !

Not limited to the 356...

Paul: I have been told this is a common problem, but don't know what Hunters official position is. My dealers answer was to simply disconnect it. Not a solution I agree with. It's on the "Warranty List" so I am in no hurry to do anything until next Spring. But, if it was put on the boat, I expect it to work Jeff

I know it is warranty but

I am still wondering if this is common among everyone who has this device on board.I am about to throw it off the boat!!!!

Galvanic Isolator

Paul, Am I correct in concluding that you feed the electrical system on your boat via a single shore power cable and parallel in the Air Conditioning bus to the main bus? That is what we did most of the summer and found that 80% of the time when the A/C compressor started the isolator would alarm. I am guessing that the isolator sees the current surge and voltage droop and goes into an alarm mode. Most of the time we simply had to reset the alarm to get it to clear. I am not sure if the condition would be remedied if I were to use two different shore power cables from two different supplies which is not an option at my marina.

Actually

I have 2 separate shore power feeds.1 only for my A/C and 1 for all other AC feeds. This only happens on the A/C side of the line.I have changed A and B to different outlets(swapped them).I guess it has to do with the A/C system and the Isolator.

Clean up the ground

I had a problem with the alarm going off every now and then. One day it wouldn't reset. I called the marina and insisted that they get a true ground. After several attempts there was success. You should make sure that the ground is clean (without stray current). Good Luck.
