I got an online quote from Progressive for my 1985 34 footer which is half the price of my bill from Boat US/Geico. Progressive does not require a survey. Anyone have any dealings with Progressive?

First, be certain you are comparing apples to apples. Are both policies Agreed Hull Value? How much oil spill coverage do you have? Liability? Is the Progressive Policy a "Yacht Policy"?

Get a copy of the May/June Good Old Boat Magazine, there are several articles on insurance and what to watch out for.

You may pay less, but you may get much less.

I've had progressive on 2 boats over the last 25 years or so, never made a claim so can't tell about that end. I do know they have at least one person knows keelboats because he called me once about a policy change.

Not a boat.....but have Progressive insurance on my trailer and when I had a $11000 accident they recommended a collision repair shop AND paid for the repair less my deductible without questions and no premium hike on renew.

I have progressive. One claim for a lightning strike. They did great even when I discovered more damage months after the initial claim.

I had Progressive on my boat, car, and home. I still have them on my car and home but had to go elsewhere for my sailboat. Once my boat was over 20 years old and over 40 feet, they would not write agreed value coverage and the best they would offer was about half of the value of boats of my manufacturer and model. A new C&V survey cut no ice. And their cost was hundreds higher than the new company that I went with. I'm not sure I ever had a claim with Progressive, but if I did it was for getting tangled in a submerged lobster pot.
Sad to say that yacht insurance is just not something that is once and done. Over the years I have seen renewals that were out of line and I had to change companies to get a fair price.

I just went through this with my car. I got a direct quote from Progressive that was $500 less than my existing policy (With Progressive through an agent). After printing both my existing policy and the quote, and after comparing the policies line by line, I was able to see that the coverages for the direct policy were substantially less. When I adjusted the coverages (Progressive's direct quote has a very good tool to compare different levels of coverage) the prices were comparable.
I had a car claim with them last year and have to report the process was smooth and painless.

There was a fellow on here that had some severe storm damage. The boat was basically on land on it's side. He reported a very positive experience

I also have Progressive for boat and auto. So far so good. The on water towing for $50 has come in handy a couple of times

I would never give Progressive any money for anything. Just look into the case with Katie Fisher
.

Why should Progressive have to pay the family for a legal judgement against the person who caused the accident? Of course if the dude is uninsured they will pay for a new car etc… but we are talking $760000 that should be paid by the person who caused the accident or their insurance, not the insurance company for the victim. Make him work the rest of his life to pay it off! No wonder premiums are crazy

We just had a lightning strike claim with progressive- happened sometime over the winter, kind of a freak thing, lightning jumped from our boat to the clubhouse gutter.
Anyway, we could not be happier with the process. The adjuster was quick and thorough and pretty generous considering that the blown instruments were 30 year old Datamarine. Thanks to that freak accident we’re in the process of doing some major upgrades as we get ready to launch.
Anyway, we’ll keep Progressive for the foreseeable future.

I’ve had Progressive since buying our boat in 2018. It’s been a pain free experience. I filed a claim that resulted in a new rudder, water heater, steering repairs and other ancillary items. They were responsive throughout the process and I was satisfied with their handling of the claim. I also took the “sign & glide” towing and have been very happy with it. I have boatus gold coverage as well, but progressive calls which ever service is closest— I’ve used it when I knew I was out of the boatus area. Yes, I used them a few times in the Louisiana icw.
