have 1/3 of the backing plate finally attached to the underside of my formosa's foredeck.
had to change workers in mid-project--seems the original guy said he would do it the way i wanted it-- making a laminated plate just like the one removed due to wet rot-- was like a plywood laminate-- for strength, placing layers at 90 degree angles and epoxying them so there is strength and structure-- wasnt doing that-- he made all his cuts in longitudinal direction -- so there is a seam up the middle, where the forestaysail stay installs.
NOT.
and so we progress onward with a nice big sheet of 3/4 in ply added to these longitudinal layers and epoxy. that makes just under 1 inch backing plate for my foredeck-- backs the windlass, the forestaysail and its track and any other windlass i place as i have 2 anchor systems on my bow.
hay, this is awesome--:dance: it was originally thunk that the wet rot was deck!!!! LOL... i love the construction of this boat-- is sooo different--lol-- i had a foredeck backing plate that was rotted/. my deck is strong. hooooyaaahh.. and an imaginary friend loves me lots--lol---i just received some woods that one of our members sent for my mounting plate topsides for the windlass-- wow cypress is sooo beautiful!!! :dance: the box of woods smelled sooo goood--i had to stick my head in it and breathe in for a looong minuet. thankyou!!!!! ross--- yer not bad for a curmudgeon!!!!! muuaaaaahhh----
i also bought the cedar for my shelves--lol-- 2 projects simultaneously requiring the production of flying wood bits--sawdust---yipes-- but--- after these are done, i only have chainplates and packing gland and rebedding the stanchions and replace a piece of glass i broke-- found out thank heavens before i left--had boat been pooped in 30+ft seas, id'a had glass in an eye-- of whoever would have been at helm. yipes' i will replace that with lexan or something... even tempered glass is better than regular window glass.
and so the saga of the formosa 41 solitary bird continues..LOL....
( 30-50 ft seas are a real possibility this yr as is la nina.) the seas , current and wind should all be going my way--- SOUF!!!!!! so i was advised should be a good passage--- just hope weather gods are on our side for a change. we still have some time before december-- we see what we get brung..
