We cannot raise our jib on our Hunter Legend 37.5. There is a hnag-up about 30 feet up the headstay right at the junction of two track pieces. Our Profurl roller furler is about 13 years old and has been trouble free for the two years we have owned the boat. The mast was up all winter. The only change from last year to this year that in any way efffected the headstay was we tightened the rigging considerably. The current thinking is somehow by tightening the rigging, we caused the mis-alignment and should we loosen the rigging, we might realign the headstay track enbling us to raise the jib. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? What was the cause and how was it eliminated?

What model Profurl do you have? If you have 2 groves for your sail try the other grove. The junction of the 2 sections has a bearing holder and alignment fitting. This item is held in place with setscrews that sometimes come loose and can allow the sections to move slightly. I would check to make sure that all the screws are in place and tight. While you are there, check for any burrs that the sail could be snagging on at the joint. If you tightened your rig using the head stay, you could of shortened the length of the head stay and put the extrusion in compression and this is keeping the groves that are loose at the joints from aligning as you hoist the sail. This should not normally be a problem if all your joints screws are tight. However, if you had one that was loose than tightened the head stay and put the extrusion in compression with that joint out of alignment, this would then lock that joint in the un-aligned position. You could try loosening the head stay, than rotating the extrusion to see if the groves re-align. Hope this helps.

Very good response there, o_salt. I agree. About two months after we had ours installed LCI-32 we couldn't get the sail up. Rigger said the set screws "shoulda been put in with locktite." I agreed. Explained to him that he WAS the numskull that originally installed it. Hiked him as far up as necessary to check all the other setscrews. Could just be the screws, not the extrusion itself.
