I am replacing the Tiller Head with one from Edison Marine, I have
removed the tiller and the bronze part that screws to the tiller, My
question concerns the part remaing at the top of the one inch prop
shaft, I have removed the forward bolt with not two much problem but
their seems to be a second bolt or pin that goes threw the tiller
shaft, Can any one please tell me the easiest way to remove it.

Thank you all.

Hi David

Speaking with some authority as i di this very thing three days ago when I
lifted Southern Comfort abd removed her rudder.

There is a stainless pin driven into the fitting. This can be removed,
supposedly by tapping with a hammer and drift but I have never been able to
do this and have always had to drill the item out with a 5 or 5.5mm drill
bit. Takes some time but never fails. Once this pin has been removed the
fitting can be tapped off gently with a small hammer. The pin is supposed to
be tapered but I can hardly see the difference. WE drilled and tahammered
from the Port side to the starboard side

I have spare tapered pins in stock but I am sure you can get one made
locally.

Any local woodwork gurus that wants to help me on Southern Comfort then
please feel free to contcat me. She is on the hard at Malvern,
Worcestershire (UK) for the winter!Kind Regards
