Catalina 22 P. P. Y. C.
The Bimini is the largest that one can put on a C22 46"HX72"L85"W... I wanted to be able to enter and exit the cockpit quickly.... I've had it now ten years and it's been on the old style I use to have (mounted on the outside tracks) and now on MKII (mounts on the inside tracks)

Soft topper look on ebay they sell a topper specifically for the catalina 22.

However as you can see from the pics of mine it isnt as wide but we like it and the price was right.

Ill try to find where i got my netting bought it last year so no guarantees there.

The memory foam cuts easy with either a utility knife or scissors. You dont want matress thickness just topper. Then after you cut it then youll need to glue some of what you cut off to the top corners since its very wide at the top. Easiest to just take the cushions out and do it on the livingroom floor...or maybe not...but for me its easier

What did you use to cut the memory foam mattress to fit the vee berth. Been thinking about doing the same thing.
Scissors work excellently! Very easy!

Wish i could remember where i got it but its been over a year and really don't remember it was some website
A quick search i found this site you want to find one like this though that sells it by the foot i didn't want to have pieced together setup

I just used white zip ties to put it up and since you need a way to attach it to at the bottom i used i guess you might call it a high stretch rope that i put on first around the entire boat around the rail. Interestingly enough i used the boats wenches to get the rope really tight tied it off then used zip ties to attach the netting.

Really pay attention when you buy the netting its not like just buying a rope since it spreads the taller you make it the shorter it gets which im sure you realize after ya think about it just wanted to make sure ya do :)

Anyway that is the site i found. Isn't where i got it but the netti g is probably the best looking most functional and cheapest upgrade I've done.

I thought about this for a long while, before I came up with the best upgrade. A lot of you know that this boat was just a winter project for me, I could bring it home on occasion, etc., and completely disassembled the entire boat. So it was ALL an upgrade, and made a pretty decent little day boat for lovely bride and I to play on. But the best is hands down, the ST 2000 tiller pilot. It added a whole new dimension to enjoying the thing, without attending to that accursed tiller. I have sailed it more than 20 miles at a time, without ever touching it.
I decided to post this today, while after leaving the marina, an Oday owner was inquiring about steering possibilities. He, as well as many, have tried every known "contraption", with meager results. Lashing, tamers, sheet to tiller, sail trim, none of this makes any difference if you so much as move from one side of the boat to the other, or forward. It changes the hull plan, and therefore will steer off course, (unless you sit very still at the tiller). If I had to keep this boat a long while, and could not get another autopilot of any kind, I would not take five thousand dollars for it. Seriously.

(And, I sold this guy a 1000+ dollar installation job after a short whiz around the yacht basin with it)....

Ill start

Autopilot. Raymarine love it makes long trips just alot more enjoyable bei g to take my hands off the tiller.

Roller furling cdi flex furler wouldnt sail without it being able to furl in a matter of seconds

150 genoa on the new furler from national sail supply love the 150 genoa but im now not so sure just how great the qualty is. Damn its loud and wont brag about the stiching and all no i havent had any issues with it but again wont brag about it either.

New full batton mainsail from mack sails. WOW the quality is just amazing dont know how to express it any better than to just say WOW!!!

Quick release winch crank i bought at a boat show? While its nice it looks like new still probably cause i never use it simply unneeded on a catalina 22 in my opinion.

Cam cleats to replace all horn cleats for halard, furler, and sheets. Hate to over use an expression but WOW!! Talk about making sailing easier, safer, more enjoyable. Safer you say? Nothing like being able to release a sheet in a gust or a quick tack with the flick of the wrist.

Bimi i got mine off of ebay from a company named soft topper fit perfectly. Price was right but for that price the tubbing is aluminum (sp) and the mounting brackets are nylon but the fabric is a high quality sunbrella and i havent had any issues with it and again the price was right. Would i have bought from them again answer is yes.

Solar panel 40 watt no sailboat should be without nuff said....got mine off ebay wayyyyyy cheeper than other sources.

New plow anchor got that off ebay as well beautiful polished stainless 13lb only used it once but love it first anchor ive had here that actually held in our bottom.

Netting around lifelines well we have a little dog we take with us works great dogs happy im happy and it looks good and was way cheep at 50cents a foot.

Cockpit chairs...got them from west marine there like a ratchet type lawn chair with the legs works great on a catalina 22 incase anyone is wondering comfy as well

Memory foam matress topper that we custome cut for the v birth. Makes sleeping in vbirth actually enjoyable. We also made fitted sheets and a fitted bed spread all of it makes sleeping there much nicer.

Made a screen to fit over the pop top used a heavy 3/4" rope around its edge to hold it down instead of alot of snaps or whatever works great after a bit of trial and error keeps the buggies out. Also made a screen to cover the hatch

New radio this year mounted the radio under the electrical pannel seemed li,e a good spot no worries about water. I put the speakers on both sides of the entry hatch where the depth and knot gages were sounds great.

A canvas shoe holder has like 9 pockets mounted it behind the settie great for all the little things you want handy. I used those hooks you see on the tv all the time that are the pull release ones like them on the boat they stick really wel, to the walls but they also come off easy.

Well if i think of more and anyone cares ill post it.

Would love to hear others in things they have done that works or doesnt.
Screen for front hatch: I'm doing an overnight in Newport RI for the tall ships on Saturday. I want to put something together. Do you remember where you got the netting and the hatch dimensions? Thanks!

Wow unfortunately im a cheepass. I had the netting left over you might say from a screened in porch attachment for our motor home we weren't using anymore. Had enough to make the screen for both the popup and the front hatch.

Basically open the hatch lay the screen over it cut the screen and sort of wrap it like a xmas present cut the excess then get ur sewing needle and thread and go to town.

I sewed in a half inch rope around the bottom of the screen to weigh it down did the same thing for the poptop

My suggestion is to head to a local good fabric store. A good o e is probably gonna have what you want and alto cheaper than anywhere else. Choose something heavy least i did don't want to nave to be carefull with it.

for cutting upholstery/mattress foam, whether its regular foam or memory foam, an electric carving knife saves time and keeps the edges smooth and perfect......

If you're wanting to make a fitted screen for the companionway, where the hatch boards go, it's pretty easy to build a small wooden frame, and the screen will slip in, and out.
It is 17 3/8" across the bottom, 32" across the top, 30 3/4" straight up and down, (height), and 31 5/8" diagonally from bottom corner, to top corner, (that's either left hand side, or right, up and down, NOT lower left, to upper right).
Hope that might help..

I just finished the companionway screen project. They fit perfectly! I would still measure your companionway, I think Catalina made 4 different opening sizes.
