Proctor Mast spinnaker car and pole

Greeting folks. I recently acquired a Forespar spinnaker pole (11 feet) for my Vega and was quite thrilled at the prospect of FINALLY using that sail... however I found that the pole's ends are too big to fit within the standard spinnaker car on my Vega. It is a Proctor Mast car that is about one inch in ID where I might be better off with a 1.50 - 1.75 inch ID car. Does anyone know of if such a car was made and if so where can I get one? OR do I have to find another pole OR do I have to try and machine down one end of my pole to fit this car? I'm not sure how long Vega's used Proctor Masts so I'm not sure if our community is in a position to help. I don't see the prospects of getting a new pole, as this one, in excellent shape came to me quite cheap and I would like to use it. Any thoughts you might have would be welcome. Thanks, Hal

Hi Hal, My spinn car has a much larger ring welded onto it. It was like that when I bought the boat and I have never used it. I can see the remnants of the old ring and it looks much smaller in diameter.. hope this helps. From: "halandcindy@... Welding a larger ring might be the way to go as. Defender marine has a large assortment of rings that would probably fir your needs. Ebay might be a good place to try to find a used car. Thanks Walt, I've been all over Ebay and Craigs list and no joy. The current car is a cast stainless steel unit that I don't want to destroy by cutting it up, so I'm either going to have to find a second car that fits the track OR have one machined. Yes

I think Forespar might make reducer bushings so you can mount a smaller ends on your larger diameter pole.

As I recall I removed mine, cut it through in the middle, spread the two ends enough to fit in an extra piece and got a welder to weld the piece in.Might be worth a try.Sent from my iPad
