As it turns out, the NFB (No feed back) steering is very handy for a sailboat. It is similar to a tiller-tamer in its operation. In essence, the wheel stays set where you put it until you change it. You lose the feel of the tiller, but are able to relax, adjust the sails, go below for short periods and single hand more easily.

Sail set

I mistakingly installed one of these when I first changed mine out. I can see that use........I used to have autopilot on mine also but to it off because it forgave a bad sail set.......once you have a perfct sailset......the boat will sail in a striaght line......so to speak. I just didn't care for the resistence of the cams in the steering housing...and felt it would limit the feedback needed for determining whether you have the correct sailset by how the boat responds to rudder movemnet.
