We haven’t figured out how this works. we have a Catalina 25 tall rig (30 foot mast) we are having trouble understanding why there are cleats on the drum, two holes on the drum etc.

On older CDI furlers the halyards are inside the foil, the cleats are for the halyard.

Not positive, I believe the holes are for attaching the headsail tack. Perhaps a search online for a manual would be helpful.

I would assume that one cleat is for the tack and the other for the halyard. Mine uses shackles. Yours is a much larger unit than mine.

I have one hole on the top of the drum to knot and secure the furling ling.

on mine, the halyard times there and the tack is secured through one of those holes by a small line....the halyard runs to an internal block at the top. When I remove the headsail, I need to tie a messenger line to the halyard so I can bring the halyard back down latter. And I tie the messenger line to that cleat then as well.

I know this is a bit of a crazy concept, but I like to check out the manual to understand how things are made and then put to use...
Thanks man! We found the previous owner ordered the bearing for a ff4/ff6 style. So I downloaded the pdf file for the ff4/ff6. We also have an entire standard rig mast and cdi for our last Catalina 25. (We had to scrap that boat because the keel bolts fell apart from the rust)
My question is: why does this drum have holes where the anchor pin shackles should be?

No clue. Could someone have removed the pin shackles.

Hi there, this is an older design likely from the 90s. Here is a photo showing how to secure your lines.
