Problem with torque going ahead

I seem to have a problem with my 34' Hunter when under power ahead. This boat will turn left Big Time..it requires constant attention to keep her from starting a left turn that only becomes more extreme. Does anyone else have such a problem, and if you do how did you cure the situation? I intend to pull her for a bottom soon so an external skeg or other solution is an option. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

No turn to the left (is your boat Democratic?)

I have a Martec folding prop, and it motors ahead just fine, no turning problem at all. In reverse, the Martec can be a little exciting, but again, any propwalk is easily compensated for. You must have something else wrong. Please advise what you find.

Always assumed it was a prop wash effect since it goes away or is greatly reduced when you drop the engine rpm's. For motoring long distances I use the autohelm. Barry a/v "PER DIEM too"

Big Prop?

I have the same problem when I went to a three blade prop from the Martec 2-blade. The overall better response of the 3 blade causes me to overlook the downside of the torque. I think the only way to correct this would be to offset the engine/shaft...which would be cost prohibitive. I'll throw the autohelm on instead!

Pretty Straight

I have the original two bladed prop on my 1984 Hunter 34 with the 20hp version of the Yanmar. She holds pretty true when powering ahead and requires little helm pressure to keep her on course. If you have a three bladed prop, that may explain it. If not, I would look for other possible mis-alignments (in the blades or possible rudder malformations). Or you may be dragging some heavy grownth on the port side of the keel?
