Problem with rudder line

I have a 1993 hunter 23.5. Whenever I drop the rudder, the line that pulls the rudder down jams into the casing that holds the rudder. This happens whether I am pulling on the line, or just dropping the rudder by hand. Any ideas on what a quick fix for this would be? Thanks

line

Is it being caught between spacers or is your problem with the line is routing? Need a little more info. If line not caught between the blade and housing, then make sure it is going under the bolt which may haved a plastic cover ovver the bolt to prevnet chaf. Dave kCondon

larger line

Like Dave said, make sure it is threaded right. You may want to consider putting a larger diameter line on. On my 93, I use a larger line on the downhaul line. It wedges less, and I don't have to look which of the two rudder lines is the one to pull to get the rudder fully down (when my crew scrapes the bottom).

Thanks

Thanks for the info--It's getting wedged between the rudder and casing. I'm pretty sure it's threaded right, but I will check again. I used to keep the boat on a trailer, and never really had a problem with it, but since keeping it in the water, it has gotten progressively worse--I will try the larger line and see what happens. Thanks again
