I recently purchased 84 Hunter 22 and I am replacing the Halyards, lines and sheets. I ran into a problem in replacing the main sheet outhaul. Inside the boom I found that the cable was connected to 2 blocks that resembled a boom vang setup but this was inside the boom. The 2 blocks were not attached to anything that I can tell but I did have to remove the bolt for the main sheet boom bail. Does anyone have a reason why the block assembly is inside and how should it be attached? i can send pictures if it will help visualize. Thanks.

The catalinas have an internal outhaul system and I'll bet 65% of them don't work. To solve the problem I used 2 small Harken triple blocks (you could get away with a double). The hardest part was figuring out how to attach them. Obviously one block attaches to the clew and the other to the outhaul but i had to mess with a couple of shackles to get the job done. With the triple block setup I have plenty of mechanical advantage.
Personally, i would not mess with the internal setup.
