I have a 11 HP universal diesel the low oil light comes on occasionaly althought there is plenty of oil .. I have flushed out the engine..and ame using the best grade of oil obtainable.. The problem is ether a defective oil sensor or oil pump..Any insight any one has as to the potential problem with this engin would be appreciated...THANKS

Trouble Shooting low oil pressure

First assume you have not trouble and your indication is false before you destroy the engine. I would first remove the oil pressure sensor and connect a direct reading analog oil pressure gauge after first inserting a thin wire into the port opening to be sure nothing is restricting the oil access to oil pressure sensor. With the engine running at idle the gauge should indicate approximately 10-12lbs per square inches of pressure (check manual for actual spec) Then increase engine rpm and note that pressure increases. If you fail to meet engine spec pressure check manual to see if there is a means of adjusting the oil pressure. The old atomic 4 gasoline engine had that feature. If you get a normal reading replace oil sensor. Good luck. Stephen
