Avoiding the Guillotine!
I think maybe a REAL answer might be in order. Keeping the Admiral happy is job 1. That old tee shirt slogan: "If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy" applies here. The way to beat it is to learn all that you can about easing your boat's motion. 1. Learn all that you can about sail "Twist" and apply it when she's aboard. Twisting off the top of your sails brings the center of effort down and that helps the boat to move well in bigger wind without as much heel. 2.Reef early. 3. Bear off a bit more than you might if you were out with your sailing buddies. 4. Never yell if you can avoid it, and try to teach her that you sometimes yell to be expediant or to emphasize that something NEEDS to happen, never to belittle her. 5. Get her as involved in the process of sailing the boat as you can, the more she knows, the more she'll understand how you BOTH are keeping her safely out of danger. She'll be more comfortable because she knows what danger is and isn't, and how to stay safe. 6. Try to be a sailing partner, not the boss(I know, I know, that's REALLY hard!) besides, if you get her really involved an amazing thing will happen: she'll want to go sailing! Even in big weather! AND she just might get you some really cool sailing gizmo that you actually want or need as a present to BOTH of you! Happy New Year from Cap'n Ron and Admiral Wendy of the s/v Best Revenge H 40.5
