I live in St.Pete, been a marine surveyor for 20 years, retired now. There are about 650 slips in St.Petersburg marina, that puts over $250,000. A MONTH in the coffers of the city, why can't proper maintenance and all other needs be taken care of. There is no accountability. How much of the marina money is being used in other parts of the city, probably maintaining the rest of the parks, don't know just guessing. It does work out to around $3,000,000. a year in revenue, where is it being spent, and that don't include money from restaurant's and yacht club leases. If they can't maintain it with that income, why would a private company want to come in and rebuild it for income. I will guaranty you, the people in the marina and the people of St.Petersburg will take it in the shorts, just like Tropicana field and the Pier. The Pier had hundreds of people during the week, thousands on the weakend. Had a dozen mom and pop businesses three big restaurants. Places to sit walking out to the end. You could spend a night or a day at the pier. Now you have two eat centers, no mom and pop businesses, and not one bench or shade walking out there. Your city fathers do not have your best interest to heart in St.Pete, some one is getting the benefit, to bad we can't check bank accounts.
But the city docks are just another example of your officials, giving away the peoples resources. For what ever reason. Capt. Vince Rakstis, Ret.MS St.Petersburg, Fl.
