Well just thought I would put a little something here from my last trip. New sailor here with a O-day 25. Live in Fairbanks. It's a 380 mile drive to my boat in Valdez AK. Well went down the first time with the wife. We went out and anchored at a spot where there was a landing spot for the dingy to let the dog run. Real hard getting her in and out of the dingy. Well while were there another sailboat was in the next cove he came over in his dingy and invited us to come over to anchor with him. So after running the dog we did. and we had freshly caught shrimp and good conversation. Nice guy had an old 35' he is fixing up for long cruising live aboard. Well next day we went back to the harbor for some supplies. Got some sailing in the weather was fantastic. We both got sunburned on the face. We stayed near the same place that night but the other guy was gone. We got to watch seals playing all over the place. Sea gulls diving for fish. The next day we headed out to another bay wind was just right for me to learn to sail Got going and had a pod of dolphines follow us for about an hour. it was so unreal for me. The wind died motored into the next bay. Went way to the end and just enjoyed the sun. Anchored in a cove with cliffs going almost straight up. Perrigan Falcons there and eagles. And 10's of thousands of salmon fry Well the wind came up so sailed out. Had first experience trying to get some where with a direct headwind. I know I tacked lot more then necessary Put gained alot of confidence in my sailing skills. I actually got the boat going as fast as the motor does!!!!! I know sounds lame. wel we sailed across Valdez arm to another bay and spent the night in a great cove there. The dog went nuts running around. It was a place marked on the charts for an anchorage so a lot of other boats there. That I didn't like but guess you have to share some times. Greg
