Priming you Yanmar idea....

I have a Yanmar late 70's SB8. I have only had it one season with very few problems. In all the literature I have read, they suggest changing both fuel filters. Has anyone ever thought of adding a primer ball to the fuel line? It would seems to me that it would make the entire fuel priming process much easier. Any thoughts or reactions appreciated.

Priming not difficult if you know how

The priming pump handle in the Yanmars is often said not to work well. But if you know how to use it, it's pretty simple: push the handle down to what at first feels like the bottom of the stroke. Then give it some more push, and it'll go a little further, actuating the pump pretty effectively. At least that's how it works on my 83 3GMF. Good luck.

To avoid priming...

Refill both fuel filter canisters and then use a West System syringe to top them off. It works.

Do It!

After see an outboard motor primer bulb on my friend's Westerbeke I installed one on the Yanmar on my J-41. I used it many times. It works great with no deterioration. I will install one this spring on my H376.
