With the market getting better for buyers ( prices soon to really normalize) what is your opinion of a price fair or reasonable for a well kept 1984 27 with an 3 year old engine that has less than 200 hours on her ?

Price is a number you are willing to pay for a boat you believe it is in a better condition than it might be worth.

Offer a number that allows you to spend again that much so you can make the boat what you think you want.

When you’re finished you will spend more than the boat is worth. Hopefully you’ll be happy for a while.

Such is the nature of boats and owners.

It's all about condition, retrofits and equipment upgrades. I know quite a bit about this classic coastal cruiser, having owned my 77 dinette, std rig, outboard power model for 24 years. I wouldn't dare suggest a price without asking a lot of questions about the boat and what the new owner's expectations are. So........I would be happy to chat with you directly about all things Catalina 27. I suggest we do this over the phone. It'll be way easier and faster than posting emails back and forth. You can use the "private message" feature here on the forum to contact me to set up a call. Good Luck. Joe

Check sailboatlistings.com and yachtworld.com for boats currently for sale. Region is also an important price factor, so look for comps in your region (Florida?).

Newer engine is a PLUS. Price depends on condition of engine, sails, electrical, plumbing, rigging, hull and non-skid and safety equipment, what instrumentation it has and is not out dated like a Loran, etc,, what upgrades it gas AND what you are willing to pay for it vs. other similar sailboats. Get a survey and see what the surveyor says about value. Ask the broker for comps on what other 1984 Catalina 27's have recently sold for. Also do an internet search on 1984 Catalina 27 for sale to see what others are being listed for like these:

1984 Catalina 27, Canyon Lake Texas - boats.com
1984 Catalina 27 Racer/Cruiser for sale - YachtWorld

What's the engine model ... Is that a 3-year old inboard or outboard engine?

I think it's worth $10K or a little more if everything is in good shape. I'd prefer to see new standing rigging, rather than original "inspected" rigging. If it's original, I'd figure on replacing. The biggest ticket item that would ruin this boat's value would be a non-functioning engine. The fact that it has a nicely powered new engine is very favorable.
