I have a 1986 Oday 222. We've owned it for 3 years and love it but its time to move up to a bigger boat. It in great shape; lots of new equipment (sails, furler, sheet tracks, winches, etc. It also has a new spinnaker (with chute) and a galvanized trailer. The upholstery is perfect and the Honda 4-stroke has never give any trouble. Can anyone help me? What should I be asking for price? Ed

Sounds like you have a nice boat and there's still plenty on sailing time(warm weather) left to make it a good purchase for the new owner.Without seeing any photos of your boat and with all that new equipment you could probably ask for $6000 and take it from there... Enclosed find a photo of my 1984 222 Silver anniversary Edition, they say its worth $8 t0 $10,000 cause only a dozen or so were made. Good luck....

I bought a 222 three years ago, in decent but not perfect shape, with an old two stroke short shaft engine, and a rusty trailer that required some work. I paid $3900. I think that was a good market price for my boat. Your's sounds like it is in better shape than mine, and you have a much newer four-stroke engine, a better trailer situation and some nice upgrades. I see quite a few 222's in the $4000-$5000 range. These almost always have a trailer, and older 2-stroke engines, with older sails. I've never seen one sold with a chute. I would think the $5000-$7000 range is about right, and would probably push for the upper range at the outset (given the new sails you describe and the motor) and drop it from there. Good luck with the sale of this boat and your upgrade to a bigger boat.

When to sell....
If you can, I'd suggest holding onto it until the spring thaw. You will get a lot more buyers willing to pay more after the winter is over then you will with fall fast approaching. If you need to sell it now, then go for it, but if you can bide your time, I think you'll get more money for it. Josh

I bought my '86 ODay 222 May 1st. No trailer. Old, but good sails. Good running '86 6hp Johnson. Immaculate in every other way! Marine Radio, no other extras. The guy I bought it from asked $5k and got no calls. I would have paid $4500 but he dropped the price to $3k before I got around to calling him so I talked him down to $3k. Hopes this helps (makes me smile either way).
