I have removed the graphics/letters from my sailboat but the hull still shows the previous letter markings as if it still there. Can anybody suggest a rubbing compound or something similar that will remove the marking without damaging the gelcoat. By the way I used the strippe eliminator to remove the graphics and it worked great, I also applied some goo gone to remove any trace of glue. What remains is the colour difference of a brigher fiblerglass that was under the graphics and it is eye sore ! Any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks, Marcio

Ghost Graphics

Unfortunately we have all expirenced this problem. Basic rubbing compound probably will not work. On my boat, once the stern was cleaned etc, we installed the new graphics and over time the ghosting of the old disappeared.

They will fade.

Marcio: The ghost will fade over time. If you are planning on applying new lettering, I would suggest that you first try some type of cleaner. You may want to try the Island Girl Products first. If that does not work, then you can try something like the 3M rubbing compounds. If that does not do the job, you can always use wet/dry sand paper with lots of water.

Go with the old name

We had the same problem but the name was on both sides of the hull is large letters. We decided it was easier to have the same name put back on the boat. We often kidded my husband since the boat name was "CLASS" ... told him it was the only way he would ever have any!

Collinite fiberglass cleaner ...

This stuff works great. Most of the ghosting may have been caused by exhaust. Use Collinite Fiberglass Cleaner a couple of times and your transom will be sparkly clean (not sure if you'll still see the name but it will be clean).
