I use two types but hook both at the base of the stanchion. Usually I just tie the boom witha length of rope. If I am serious I remove the boom vang and hook it at the base of the stanchion using a snatch block. I originally purchased the snatch block to keep the flaked sail from rubbing on the dodger when in the slip.
