preventer line on 29.5

Since there are no cleats amidships, how do you rig a preventer line on a 29.5?

Bob, if your toerail is slotted

put a turning block on it and run the preventer back to a cockpit cleat. ( assuming a mid-boom connection) On my 37 I just used a a $3 shackle (sp?) intead of a block, figuring there is no friction on the line then it runs through the block/shackle on controlled jibes. I wanted the line led aft since I didn't want to be on the deck setting up the preventer after a controlled jibe. If you're using a preventer then you are in big following wind/waves and should minimize "deck" time while enjoying the ride. Scott

Add a cleat

The toe rail(more accurately, lack of toe rail) on my 280 is like yours. I am almost finished with adding pads and cleats just foreward of the chain plates. I will use the cleats for springlines, but my primary purpose was to allow me to rig a preventer. Total cost; approximately $150. The new cleats came from Hunter and match the others on the boat. The whole project looks like it was done at the factory.

Easy fix

As you head downwind, remove the boom vang block at the base of the mast and simply clip it onto one of the base of the closest stanchion. Has worked for me for years.

Bill thanks for the idea but the stanchions are screwed in. Will it work even though there is no chain plate for s more secure hold?
